Our Story

CSNU has a rich history in Papua New Guinea and our journey alongside the vulnerable people and communities continues to thrive.

1981

Mt Sion school established by the Christian Brothers

The Christian Brothers in PNG establish the Mt Sion school for blind and low vision children. The school, located in Goroka, Eastern Province is a resounding success and continues to operate to this day.

1991

Network of Callan Services is created

Led by Christian Brother Br Graeme Leach, specialised education support for sight and hearing-impaired children in Wewak is created. This initiative, at the St Benedict’s Primary Teachers College in Kaindi provided access to education for young children living with a disability.

1991

Inclusive Education Resource Centres (IERCs) are established

Completed the first working prototype of our product, marking a significant milestone in our project timeline.

2023

New partnerships emerge that support the growth of services

Geographic reach increases and includes an investment in mor skilled staff members along with new services partnerships.

2024

Expansion of services to include GRV, SARV and Sign Language Training

As part of CSNU’s approach to provide long-term positive impact to the people they serve and respond to their needs, services were expanded to offer training and advocacy in critical areas affecting people living with a disability.

2024

Head offices moves to Port Moresby

Due to significant growth in revenue, services and partnerships, the office moves from Wewak to Port Moresby to better support vulnerable people and communities.

March 2025

Launch of new CSNU brand

Callan Services changes its name and branding to CSNU. This strategic change occurs to better reflect the work that CSNU does and to provide a memorable and modern look for the organisation.

The Future

CSNU are well positioned to continue our work to create a brighter future for the most vulnerable people in PNG. We will continue to expand our reach, grow our service offering and continue our positive relationships with our valued partners.
